1. luminosity
It is important to consider how a room’s natural light will affect your favorite hue. Color can appear very different depending on the time of day. Artificial lighting also has an impact as light bulbs can emit a cool or warm tone. Make sure to consider all of these variables when making your final selection!
2. samples
Before committing to a color, be sure to purchase a few samples and paint swatches on different walls in your space. Check on the colors at various times of the day to ensure that you like it! Our collection is available in pint size samples and soon-to-be available in peel and stick samples, which can be purchased both online and in store at Ring’s End.
3. sheen
Selecting the right paint finish is very important, as it determines how much light the paint embodies and reflects. This can play a role in the amount of surface imperfections seen as well as durability. Our rule of thumb is to select a flat finish for ceilings, matte on walls, and satin for trim, walls and doors.
4. palette
Make sure to consider all of the elements in your space when selecting a hue. What color are the floors? What other tones are in the room (think cabinetry, tile, countertops, furniture and more), and don’t forget the role that luminosity plays in a space, as we mentioned!
4. pop
While we love a neutral palette, it can be so fun to add dimension with pops of color. Always try to create an unexpected moment in a space, whether it be an accent wall or a fun ceiling. Paint your ceiling a bold blue hue (we recommend our La Mer paint color!) or go for a a painted shiplap wall.
