This past Summer, I visited the West with my family and was overcome with its majestic beauty. I felt so inspired that upon returning home I decided to redesign my old office space, which my husband now uses when he is not in the city to work, and transform it into my Montana happy place. Instead of just keeping the space an office, I also incorporated a lounge area where I imagined we’d kick back with our cowboy boots, hang our hats and play cards as a family. Watch out Duttons!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a beach girl through and through but the Wyoming Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Montana Paradise Valley region absolutely won my heart. I began by painting the shiplap my favorite muddy brown “Low Tide” from our A La Plage paint collection with Ring’s End. The perfect moody and earthy hue that makes a quiet statement. Although I wish I could have splurged on a real rustic wood ceiling, I instead called my dear and talented decorative painter, Stephen with Floe Painting, to create the same vibe. I mean, can you even?

Here is the before and after…

I chose soft, shaggy furnishings with wood detail to create a cozy atmosphere and character grade desk to make a masculine statement. The cowhide rug was a fun touch to stay as authentic to the wild west vibe as possible and of course, the bar was a must!

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I have an obsession with vessels and I loved using this space to showcase some of my most original favorites which I’ve curated over time. In addition to those beauties, I couldn’t be happier with designing this space as the perfect backdrop for some of my favorite artists, Paul Meyer and our Buffalo photographic art which I personally sourced at Medicine Bird Gallery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

One of my favorite parts of “going for it” in this space is that I was able to push myself to think outside the coastal zone which I truly enjoyed. Still my signature with the warm tones, white oak and elevated laid back vibe but moodier than my usual aesthetic and I am in LOVE!
