Having lived many years in Darien, Connecticut and birthed both my boys in this sweet coastal town, I was thrilled to be hired to design a home at my old stomping grounds. One of our first national covers went to a Darien farmhouse so I knew we couldn’t go wrong working with the same builder on a new project. This charming family of four truly trusted the design process from day one and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this classic beauty.

Although we were originally brought in to redesign the kitchen footprint and functionality it turned out this led to reworking the living room and playroom as well. By removing a wall that literally blocked off the flow to the heart of the home, we drastically opened up the floor plan to allow for endless daylight to shine throughout the first floor which led to more design fun room after room.
To compliment the classic white kitchen our client dreamed of and to contrast nicely against the darker wood floors, we selected bleached wood tones, an airy light fixture and simple clean lines throughout the new dining space. The extension table allows for plenty of entertaining all seasons long.
When designing the kitchen, we wanted to provide the homeowner with the ability to look out their window from the statement farmhouse sink so we laid the kitchen out based on this wish alongside kitchen experts John June Custom Cabinetry. We went with a seamless white quartz countertop and a picket white backsplash by New England Tile. The wrap around island accommodates each growing family member and we may have been able to even throw an art TV on that wall for everyone to enjoy!
It’s all within the details they say… and details we love. The vertical shiplap hood and it’s character millwork elements combined with the modern and sophisticated appliances by Monogram bring this classic kitchen together beautifully. The mixture of the brass pendants sourced by Chloe Winston Lighting and polished nickel hardware are a nod to timeless finishes.
Although kitchen trends are fun, in my opinion you can never go wrong with a classic white kitchen. Want to add color in a subtle way? Paint the island a subtle hue like this one. Done! Hope you enjoyed our Darien Charm project tour.
