Choosing the right hardware, or as we like to call it the “jewelry of your home,” is a critical component to finishing a kitchen, bathroom or office space. It can be a daunting task from selecting the type of hardware, the size, and the finish. Here are a few tips we live by to help you along!
It can be tough to decide where to use a knob versus a pull. We like to be consistent where possible! Our rule of thumb is that knobs are used on doors, and pulls on drawers. If you are leaning toward a more old world aesthetic, we love knobs everywhere (yes double knobs on drawers) but if you are looking for a more modern approach then mix it up with oversized pulls.
You may be wondering when you should double up on a pull for a cabinet drawer. For the most part, you will want to use two knobs or a 8″-10″ pull when the drawer is wider than 24″.
There are so many different hardware finishes to choose from, it can be overwhelming! Some of our favorites and most-used are: aged or unlacquered brass, polished nickel and flat black.
Have fun with hardware! We love to add unexpected hardware moments. Leather pulls create a very “luxe” look while a rattan drawer pull immediately adds that signature coastal feel. Adding a latch under the sink not only adds character but is also a great option for doors that should be kept a bit more secured (built-in child safety lock!).
Extra long and sturdier hardware should be used for paneled appliances, which will create a bold visual statement. Appliance pulls are proportional to larger paneled doors and drawers and are much more substantial for the ease of opening.
