Before losing my dad to Cancer, I promised my dad I would take care of my mom and that’s just what we did. Like many of us, the global pandemic rocked our world and to navigate the virus alone was just not going to happen so we moved my mom into our home and she fell quickly in love with our beach neighborhood.

2020 was a year to remember and embarking on a massive renovation during a pandemic was one of the most challenging tasks we’ve had to deal with. First, finding a home that made sense for my mom and second, persuading her it was THE one (not sure which was harder)! This 1800 square foot home was begging to be loved and I snatched it up right away thanks to my hard-working real estate friend. I immediately could see its potential and jumped in with two feet.
The homeowner had most of her own art collected over the years and loved a mix of modern and elevated coastal. The mix of the two vibes proved to be breathtaking.
In order to make the lower ceilings feel taller and the tighter spaces feel larger we painted the entire home in our go-to white “Chantilly Lace” by Benjamin Moore and stained the floors with Bona’s Nordic Seal. The kitchen felt enclosed and dated so we added shiplap throughout and took out the upper cabinets adding modern chrome pulls for a clean look.
The upstairs spaces are smaller but we stayed true to the era of the home and simply refreshed the walls but gutted the bathroom with a calming color palette.
Sometimes working on smaller projects is all you need to re-inspire you. This project was an emotional and physical rollercoaster and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
